The overarching goal of the TrueRent redesign was to create a more user-friendly and intuitive interface that would streamline common user flows and enhance usability for all stakeholders involved in property management. To achieve this, we conducted extensive user research to identify the key pain points and frustrations experienced by users of the existing interface. This research included user interviews, surveys, and usability testing sessions, which allowed us to gather valuable insights into the needs and expectations of property managers, landlords, tenants, owners, and service pros. By understanding these pain points, we were able to prioritize our design efforts and focus on addressing the most critical issues. Additionally, we analyzed user data to uncover the most common user goals and usage patterns, which further informed our design decisions. This data-driven approach ensured that the redesigned interface would align with the actual needs of TrueRent's users and provide a more seamless and efficient experience for all.
Our goal was to use the existing structure of the dashboard, but update the information blocks to include actionable data, versus simple summarize data. We also wanted to find ways to incorporate onboarding steps and marketing queues to help new users move through their account set up process more seamlessly.
TrueRent has unintentionally hidden some of the most useful information/actions that it's users are looking to find when they open the platform -so we surface these elements into their respective widgets on the dashboard.
Users of TrueRent are given a 14 day free trial to try the platform, so that they get the most of the platform and are encouraged to continue to use the platform, we implement various opportunities for the user to integrate with the platform depending on how new they are to it.
Current users have noted that they’re often “confused where to start or take action within the [TenantCloud] platform.” Additionally, they note that they must “go to multiple places to complete one action.” Finally, there are many who note “multiple places that seem to take the same action” are confusing. We’ve chosen to use the Property Dashboard as our orienting location in the platform, while reorienting the navigation structure to make it easier to get to, and take action on, the information you are looking for.
Our summary page utilized familiar information architecture, while providing a new hierarchy of content so users can access and take action more quickly.
High Level Information
The most important information, like address or property basics, can be found up front since they are required for other functionality in the platform.
Consolidation of Information
Where there are tabs with larger amounts of information, we have created smaller “roll-up” sections so people can see what is occurring quickly. We’ve collapse viewable information for some content, making them editable and expandable in modals if needed.
Detailed Property Tabs
Our more detailed property view includes tabbed pages that go into more depth with information on the property. These new patterns have been implemented in various other areas of the platform.
Introducing a cleaner more intuitively designed top and side navigation was a major value add. The addition of an all encompassing action button allows the user to quickly access their most frequently used actions, while also engaging them more in the product. The new 'Onboarding Nav Butler' is a widget that ensures the user completes the necessary steps to setup their account - increasing platform engagement and embedding a marketing opportunity into the interface.
