Overview

Rentler's Rentability Report, a key feature driving revenue, was hidden and confusing. I led a redesign to market the product, make it easy to find, request, and understand, resulting in usage increase and more report requests. Rentability® Reports

Rentler's unique Rentability® Report, offering market insights and rental estimates, was underutilized due to a cumbersome user experience. We redesigned the flow, focusing on discoverability, streamlined requesting, and clear report presentation. The results speak for themselves: a 23% increase in report usage and 41% more requests initiated.

The Challenge:

  • Hidden gem: The Rentability Report, a revenue driver, was buried within specific property details.
  • Request roadblock: A lengthy clickstream discouraged users from even starting the process.
  • Information overload: Dense PDFs overwhelmed users with data lacking visual emphasis or narrative flow.

Our Approach:

  • Resurfacing the Report: We strategically placed the report within the user interface, making it easily discoverable.
  • Streamlined Request Flow: We reduced clicks by a third, simplifying the process of requesting a report.
  • Reformatted Report: We transformed the PDF into a concise, visually appealing dashboard with a clear story and call to action.

Overcoming Hurdles:

  • Data limitations: We worked with available data points and prioritized actionable insights.
  • Design system constraints: We creatively utilized existing components while advocating for future system enhancements.
  • Accessibility focus: We ensured data visualizations and alternative text adhered to accessibility best practices.

Results:

  • 23% increase in Rentability Report usage: Our redesign demonstrably improved user engagement with this valuable feature.
  • 41% increase in report request initiation: More users were now motivated to access the report's insights.
  • 33% reduction in clicks: The streamlined flow made requesting reports quicker and easier.
  • 60% reduction in report length: We condensed information without sacrificing valuable data, improving digestibility.

Conclusion:

This case study showcases the power of user-centered design in unlocking the potential of hidden features. By simplifying the user experience, we significantly increased engagement with Rentler's Rentability Report, driving both user satisfaction and business success. This project serves as a testament to the value of collaboration, creative problem-solving, and a commitment to accessibility in achieving impactful design outcomes.
